Our neighbourhood health approach — helping people build the confidence and connectivity they need to look after their health online.

Digital Exclusion

Digital exclusion is a health inequality issue.

Healthcare is becoming increasingly digital, but many people are still being left behind. Many residents simply don't have access to the basics they need:

  • Passwords and account access
  • Online forms and NHS apps
  • Digital confidence and skills
  • Language barriers
  • Understanding how to manage healthcare online safely

Our work bridges that gap through trusted, community-based support.

What We Do

What Are Digital Health Days?

We deliver hands-on, community-based digital health support across Birmingham and the surrounding area — meeting people where they already are, in settings they know and trust.

  • NHS App Support

Helping residents register, access and confidently use NHS digital services.

  • Devices & Connectivity

Supporting access to devices, free SIM cards and connectivity through National Databank partnerships.

  • Digital Health Literacy

Building confidence around appointments, prescriptions, online forms and connected tools.

  • Trusted Community Support

Delivering support in GP surgeries, hospitals, libraries, schools and neighbourhood venues.

NHS App Support

One of the most impactful things we do is help residents get set up with the NHS App — from registration through to confident, independent day-to-day use.

1

Register & Verify

Step-by-step support to create and verify an NHS App account.

2

Access Health Records

Helping residents view test results, medication lists and health information.

3

Book & Manage Appointments

Showing people how to book, cancel and manage appointments independently.

Devices & Connectivity

We know that digital health starts with access. Without a device or a reliable internet connection, no amount of training can help — that's why we work with partners including Good Things Foundation and the National Databank to provide:
  • Free SIM cards and mobile data through the National Databank
  • Signposting to refurbished device schemes
  • Support connecting to public and home Wi-Fi
  • Guidance on staying safe online

Digital Health Literacy

Owning a device is only the beginning — we help residents build the skills that let them navigate the digital healthcare landscape from GP registration through to everyday safety.

Online Appointments

Booking, rescheduling and attending video consultations with confidence.

Prescriptions Online

Ordering repeat prescriptions and managing medication requests digitally.

Online Forms

Completing referral forms, registration documents and health questionnaires.

Connected Tools

Understanding wearables, health apps and remote care platforms.

Trusted Community Support

We deliver our support in the places people already visit and trust — not unfamiliar, clinical settings.

GP Surgeries & Hospitals

Embedded support within NHS primary and secondary care settings.

Libraries & Schools

Accessible drop-in sessions in familiar neighbourhood locations.

Community Venues

Faith centres, community hubs and neighbourhood hubs across Birmingham.

Real Stories

The People Making Digital Healthcare Human

Two Digital Health Days team members

I can access my health records, book appointments and don't have to queue at the surgery anymore.

They're absolutely wonderful. I've learned so much.

Digital exclusion is not just about access — it's about dignity, and making sure every resident feels supported when it comes to their health.
